Sisseton
is located on the Lake Traverse Indian Reservation in the northeast corner of South Dakota. It serves as the county seat for Roberts County and has a population of approximately 2,500. Sisseton is easily reached just two miles west of Interstate I-29 at Exit 232. It's a full service community that serves as the commercial "hub" of the region and is home to several attractions. Situated on the northeast slopes of the Coteau des Prairies, the Sisseton area is filled with lakes, parks, a 9-hole golf course, mini golf, campgrounds, snowmobile trails, hiking and cross-country skiing trails, wildlife, bingo, gaming, historic homes, hotels and numerous restaurants. There are 30 lakes located within a 20 to 30-minutes drive of Sisseton that offer some of the best fishing in the state. One example is Roy Lake, a 1,500-acre lake, located 20 miles west of Sisseton along highway 10. Roy Lake offers sandy beaches, boat ramps, picnic shelters, camping, fishing, boating and sailing, and jet skiing. During the winter months, Roy Lake is known for its groomed snowmobile trails and cross country ski trails. Other nearby attractions include Sica Hollow State Park, Hartford Beach, Big Stone Naural Area, Pickerel Lake, Buffalo Lake and Lake Traverse.

The Northeast corner of South Dakota has an interior continental climate with very cold winters and high winds and hot summers with periods of drought. The average January temperature is 12 degrees F and the normal temperature in July is 74 degrees F. However, it's not unusual for the daytime temperature during summer to climb to 90 degrees or higher, but often cooling down to the 60s at night. The normal annual precipitation is more than 20 inches, with much more rain occurring in this part of the state as compared to the southwest portion of the state. The eastern part of the state is considered part of tornado alley, with an average of 23 tornadoes per year. Blizzards and ice storms are also possible in the wintertime.
