Wall
, South Dakota is located in Pennington County in the southwestern part of the state. The population at the 2000 census was 818 residents. Wall is near the Badlands National Park, just 8 miles north of the Pinnacles Entrance Station. The park offers 240,000 acres of unique prairie vistas, rock formations and spectacular scenery. "The Wall" standing between the great upper prairie flats and gentle grassy hills, is a rugged strip of tinted spires, ridges, and twisted gullies that ranges from a half mile to three miles wide and is over nine miles long. It is this series of formations that gave the town of Wall its unique name. However, Wall is most well known for the Wall Drug Store, which opened as a small pharmacy during the Depression, but is now a famous roadside tourist attraction. The Wall Drug Store offers a three-million dollar art collection, five-cent coffee, "free ice water", and an assortment of other drugstore items. Wall Drug is a "must-see for visitors passing through on South Dakota Interstate 90." Wall is near the Hill City 1880 Train that takes visitors on a thrilling ride through the Black Hills, and also Mount Rushmore and Custer State Park.
